Pull the zip tool downward and out to unhook the bottom lip then slide it along the edge pulling the siding out as you go.
How to remove siding for repair.
Pull the piece of vinyl siding downward to disengage it from the course below it.
Remove the nails on the lap board then use the claw of the hammer to split the board down the center image 1.
It may be possible to reuse the siding.
If the siding is hard to remove try tapping it with the palm of your hand.
Then unzip any pieces above the damaged piece.
Repair the siding remove the nails in the corner cap.
Place scraps of wood underneath the edge of the upper piece to expose the nail flange of the piece that you are removing.
Use a zip tool image 1 to unlock the siding from the surrounding pieces image 2.
Repeat the procedure for the top of the damaged siding.

Slide the zip tool along the bottom edge to release the vinyl siding from the piece below it.
Its best to do this with a special tool but you can remove sliding with a flat pry bar and a hammer just take it slow and do it carefully.
Start at the bottom of the piece that is being replaced and insert a wooden shim between the pieces of siding as the zip tool slides along the siding.
You ll probably need to start removing the siding to see the extent of the sheathing that needs to be replaced.
How to repair wood siding.
Make the first cut with a circular saw.
Look for a horizontal seam between two courses of vinyl siding.
If the piece still seems attached to the wall gently pull it outward so it comes free of the channel holding it in.
Finish the cut with a sharp utility knife.
