How to twist sheet metal using a metal lathe.
I guess the problem with that method is that would not account for the part shortening due to the twist.
I don t think there is a sheet metal feature that will do that.
But you can just add the twist at the end and suppress it for the flat pattern.
Made a few attempts but not to good.
Problem is heating it up evenly.
As the lathe spin.
And you can use the same technique anytime you need a straight cut on aluminum or other light gauge sheet metal even steel.
Twist a bit let it lose then twist again.
Length of the piece will reduce when twisted.
The fixed end need to be able to slide horizontally.
You don t really need to heat it up but it ll be easier to twist.

I can see how they would make a sheet metal helix without the room for a rod through the center but can not wrap my head around the manufacturing process for a sheet metal helix with room down it s center to be welded on a rod.
I attached a part file to see the angles im trying to acheive.
